Shawn Brubaker, DO


Dr. Brubaker grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. As the oldest of eight children, he was part of a busy family that enjoyed the outdoor activities of the Rocky Mountains. Dr. Brubaker lived in Spain for two years while working as a missionary for his church. After returning from Spain he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language.

He then went to medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at Andrew Taylor Still University in Missouri. From there he completed an internship at St. John Health System ? Oakland Hospital in the Detroit metro area. He stayed at St. John for residency in orthopaedic surgery as part of the Michigan State University residency Consortium. With a strong interest in arthritis of the hip and knee, Dr. Brubaker completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the University of Virginia. Here, he had the opportunity to work with national and world leaders in the field of partial and total joint replacement.

Complex degenerative disorders of the hip and knee before and after joint replacement are of special interest to Dr. Brubaker. As a Fellow at the University of Virginia, he gained significant experience in treating the failed total joint replacements including infections, loose joints, bone loss and broken bones around implanted total joints. Dr. Brubaker is also experienced with minimally invasive hip and knee total joint replacement as well as computer assisted surgery for precision positioning of implants in the bone. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, candidate member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and a member of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society.

Dr. Brubaker has written several book chapters for orthopaedic reference texts as well as peer-reviewed journal articles. He recently published an article on treatment options for failed total hip joints with major loss of bone in the Journal of Arthroplasty.

Research on outcomes of computer navigated knees and revision total knees are also underway. Dr. Brubaker has presented at state and national orthopaedic meetings and is currently lecturing around the county on minimally invasive techniques and navigation.
